Meditation 101 – Relax and Breathe

Learn To Be Psychic, Meditation, Psychic Experiences March 7th, 2010

5907925_blogMeditation refers to a state where your body and mind are intentionally relaxed and focused.  Practitioners of this talent say that they have increased awareness, focus, and concentration, as well as a more positive outlook in life.

Meditation is most commonly associated with monks, mystics and other spiritual disciplines.  However, you don’t have to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits.  You don’t even have to be in a special place to practice it.  You could even try it in your own living room!

Although there are many different approaches to meditation, the fundamental principles remain the same.  The most important principle is that of removing obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming the mind with a deep sense of focus.  This clears the mind of debris and prepares it for a higher quality of activity.

The negative thoughts you have – those of noisy neighbors, bossy officemates, that parking ticket you got, and unwanted spam– are said to contribute to the ‘polluting’ of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the ‘cleansing’ of the mind so that it may focus on deeper, more meaningful thoughts.

Some practitioners even shut out all sensory input – no sights, no sounds, and nothing to touch – and try to detach themselves from the commotion around them.  You may now focus on a deep, profound thought if this is your goal.  It may seem deafening at first, since we are all too accustomed to constantly hearing and seeing things, but as you continue this exercise you will find yourself becoming more aware of everything around you.

If you find the meditating positions you see on television threatening – those with impossibly arched backs, and painful-looking contortions – you need not worry.  The principle here is to be in a comfortable position conducive to concentration.  This may be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking.

If the position allows you to relax and focus, then that would be a good starting point.  While sitting or standing, the back should be straight, but not tense or tight.  In other positions, the only thing that is a big no, is slouching and falling asleep.

Loose, comfortable clothes help a lot in the process since tight fitting clothes have a tendency to choke you up and make you feel tense.

The place you perform meditation should have a soothing atmosphere.  It may be in your living room, or bedroom, or any place that you feel comfortable in.  You might want an exercise mat if you plan to take on the more challenging positions (if you feel more focused doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release).  You may want to have the place arranged so that it is soothing to your senses.

Silence helps most people relax and meditate, so you may want a quiet, isolated area far from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine.  Pleasing scents also help in that regard, so stocking up on aromatic candles isn’t such a bad idea either.

The monks you see on television making those monotonous sounds are actually performing their mantra.  This, in simple terms, is a short creed, a simple sound which, for these practitioners, holds a mystic value.

You do not need to perform such; however, it would pay to note that focusing on repeated actions such as breathing, and humming help the practitioner enter a higher state of consciousness.

The principle here is focus.  You could also try focusing on a certain object or thought, or even, while keeping your eyes open, focus on a single sight.

One sample routine would be to – while in a meditative state – silently name every part of you body and focusing your consciousness on that part. While doing this you should be aware of any tension on any part of your body.  Mentally visualize releasing this tension.  It works wonders.

In all, meditation is a relatively risk-free practice and its benefits are well worth the effort (or non-effort – remember we’re relaxing).

Studies have shown that meditation does bring about beneficial physiologic effects to the body.  And there has been a growing consensus in the medical community to further study the effects of such.  So in the near future, who knows, that mystical, esoteric thing we call meditation might become a science itself!

Astrology with Astrology’s Astrologer

Learn To Be Psychic, Psychic Experiences, astrology November 8th, 2009

Sheila (aka Astrology’s Astrologer) and I had a great talk today on my That Psychic Girl Talk Show. We discussed birth charts, how she developed her skill and why she puts a positive slant on things.  She also read a few birth charts during the show.

A birth chart, also called natal or soul chart, shows the positions of the stars at your time of birth in the place you were born in. Sheila believes this gives you your message for life.

Astrologers mostly study the power that far away celestial (cosmic) objects have on human lives. The placement of the sun, stars, moon and planets at the time of people’s birth, is said to form their personality, affect their relationships and predict their financial fortunes, among other divinations.

You probably most familiar with the zodiac, which is a form of astrology known as sun-sign astrology. Most of us have read our horoscopes in the local newspaper or even in magazines.  Your zodiac sign is based on your date of birth and nothing more. Many astrologers will tell you that this form of astrology is so basic that it produces very limited results.

To produce a more accurate reading, astrologers check to see what sign each planet was in at the time of birth. The planets and signs combine with other elements, such as houses and angles, to form a complex and often very specific profile of a subject’s personality, life and future prospects. When Sheila agreed to be on my show she asked for date, time and place of birth so she could make a chart for me. She discussed what things on the chart meant and how I could use that information to my advantage.

Eastern cultures practice their own forms of astrology, among which  Chinese, Vedic and Tibetan astrology are among the most well-known and Western Astrology has evolved from the combination of practices from ancient cultures.  As a result, there is a considerable diversity of methods and philosophies. In my research, I found that the different practices of astrology may be categorized by end result that is intended, as I’ve shared below:

  • Mundane Astrology – This is used to examine world events and make predictions about national affairs, wars and economies.
  • Interrogatory Astrology – This branch can be further subdivided, but generally refers to astrology that seeks to make specific predictions or analyses about the subject’s objectives or events within the subject’s life.
  • Natal Astrology – This is what most people think of when they think of astrology. Natal Astrology seeks to make predictions and analyses based on the date of a person’s birth. It’s based on the idea that everything that happens to something is expressed at the very beginning of that thing, sometimes known as the Law of Beginnings

Sheila shared a lot of information, and it’s going to take me many listens to understand everything she said.  I hope you have fun listening.

Bright Sorcerery and Chaos Magic

Blog Talk Radio, Learn To Be Psychic, Psychic Experiences October 18th, 2009

Nick (aka Bright Sorcerer), was my guest on That Psychic Girl Talk Show this week.

Nick is an author, medium and practising sorcerer who was spiritually awakened several years ago, as a direct result of exploring astral projection.  Nicks journey has seen him set aside religious programming and opening the door to an incredible world that included a recognition of his own psychic gifts.

He was exposed to a type of magic known as chaos magic shortly after his awakening, which formed the basis of his exploration and development, chiefly in the area of psychic abilities and connecting directly with his own Guides, Angels and Ascended Masters.

Chaos magic isn’t a belief or a path (ie. Druid, wiccan etc.) – Chaos magicians are mainly soul practitioners.

Chaos Magic is a way of working with energy using the left and right sides of the brain that provides you with the freedom to incorporate what you want in your life.   With Chaos Magic, you give yourself permission to work with the energy, and modify the spells so that you can work with them in a way that you are comfortable.

I thought this sounded a lot like the Law of Attraction – in that you give yourself permission to attract to you the things you want and I asked Nick about this.  Nicks response was very enlightening – the first thing that we need to remember is that you can’t get something for nothing – particularly working with energy.  When you receive energy, you have to give energy.  Many people believe that the Law Of Attraction is about attracting the things you want to you – without trading.

This was an important lesson for me – when working with energy, spirit or the light (take your pick), you have to be prepared to trade something and that trade doesn’t have to be of the exact same nature.  I.e, if I’m working with light, I don’t have trade my light energy.  However, I do have to give up something to maintain the universal balance.  A very refreshing view.

While talking, Nick mentioned Magic and Spells a fair bit and I couldn’t resist asking about spell casting.  To me, the word ‘Spells’ brings to mind chanting and turning people into toads (and I told Nick that!) but I knew that’s not what he was referring.

The term Spells has a bad rap – it has been overused and misused for centuries, to the point that we now associate it as I have (to chanting and toads).  Really, spells are simply about working with energy to achieve what you want.

Bright Sorcerer, Nick, was a great guest and I learned heaps from him today.

Bright Sorcerer presently hosts a show entitled “Seraphim and Sandalwood” with the aim of bringing enlightenment and awareness to a wide variety of magical and metaphysical topics.

Nick maintains a metaphysical blog called “Walking In Dreamtime” and his show, “Seraphim and Sandalwood” airs on Sunday evenings at 10PM EST.  You can also read some of Nicks metaphysical poetry or listen to a narration of a number of his stories on his poetry blog called “Mystical Musings“.

The Major Arcana

Learn To Be Psychic, Psychic Experiences, Tarot October 11th, 2009

major arcanaThe Major Arcana is made up of 22 cards. The cards are numbered from 0 to 21 with the 0 card meaning complete ignorance while the card numbered 21 is complete understanding. Each of the cards have a name and number.

A major arcana card is always given extra weight in a reading. When one of these cards appears, you know the issues at stake are not mundane or temporary. The issues depicted by a Major Arcana card represents your most basic concerns – your major feelings and motivations.

It is not unusual for us to experience lessons out of order. A person may absorb the qualities of Strength early in life due to a difficult childhood, but only develop the mastery and control that the Chariot brings much later in life. Someone may overcome the attraction of the Devil’s materialism through a life of seclusion, but then need to learn about relationships, a lesson of the Lovers, at a later time.

However, no matter what our pattern of self-discovery is, the major arcana shows us that wholeness and fulfillment are our destiny. If we follow this lesson and keep it as our guiding light – we will realize our true nature and gain the World.

ABOUT THE CARDS

The Fool depicts innocence, new beginnings, joy, fearlessness, and spontaneity.

The Magician generally represents confidence, individuality, willpower, new beginnings, and inner potential.

The Empress is associated with fertility, birth, motherhood, harmony, nature, prosperity, joy, love, and artistic ambition.

The Emperor represents paternity and strong leadership and should be positively associated with achievement, authority, protection, support, trustworthiness, discipline, provider, consolidation, reason, and willpower.

The High Priestess is associated with intuitiveness, understanding, wisdom, mystery, psychic ability, and the divine feminine.

The Hierophant provides wise counsel, spiritual consolation, knowledge, identification, faith, conformity, and traditions.

The Lovers indicate desire, new lover, relationships, physical attraction, love, and commitment.

The Chariot indicates triumph, movement, change, self-belief, assertiveness, and good news.

Justice is associated with justice, truth, integrity, balance, arbitration, responsibility, and fairness.

Temperance can represent harmony, health, moderation, compromise, peace, and self-control.

Strength depicts strength, willpower, compassion, patience, courage, triumph, and fortitude.

The Hermit represents introspection, solitude, guidance, advice, and patience.

The Devil may represent permanence and commitment in a reading.

The Tower may mean re-evaluation, necessary change, and a blessing in disguise.

The Star is associated with hope, generosity, serenity, wishes coming true, good health, and spiritual awareness.

The Moon is associated with imagination, unexpected possibilities, and illumination.

Learn To Be Psychic, Psychic Experiences, Tarot October 4th, 2009

One tool a psychic may use when conducting readings are tarot cards. Tarot cards are often colourful and well decorated, generally capturing the imagination of the people around. Many people believe that the deck of tarot cards possess the power to reveal the hidden secrets to life however, it is really the interpretation of the reader that holds the power.

Tarot cards allow a psychic t0 receive messages for the person they’re reading for. These messages can vary the way that they present themselves for the reader.

The earliest variant of tarot cards is believed to originate somewhere in northern Italy, around the fifteenth century. This original version of tarot cards was deployed to play games like the regular cards but differed slightly in composition. Rhonda Carpenter – Author, Hypnotist & Meta Physical Expert

Blog Talk Radio, Intuition, Knowledge, Learn To Be Psychic, Psychic Experiences August 23rd, 2009

Past-life Regressions and Hypnotherapy aren’t subjects you that you would think you would discuss everyday, but that is exactly what Rhonda Carpenter does.

Today I spoke with Rhonda, author of “The Mark of A Druid”, Public Speaker, Educator, Reiki Master, Pranic Healer, Dream and Handwriting expert, and Founder of www.lifefirst.com.

Rhonda was born in the Midwest. At the age of four, she began to have visions of future events. As she grew, so did the visions. A professional psychic for the last 20 plus years, she found that she could tell her clients what was coming up, but she did not have the tools to help them handle the information or the motivation necessary to achieve their highest potential. Rhonda certified as a Hypnotherapist in 1994. Hypnotherapy brought it all together for her, allowing her to integrate her natural intuitive nature with scientific method.

Rhonda and I talked about what hypnotherapy and past-life regressions are and what they can do for you.

I  asked Rhonda about past-life regressions and how they can help you in you life today. She said that Past Life regressions are something that can help heal your life in the 21st century because no matter what, when you go into a regressive situation whether it be within this life time, a previous or future life time, it will all ways tie in what you experiencing now, a complication that exists. Basically by understanding your past life you can address the situation today.

Hypnotherapy is a state of heightened awareness. It doesn’t necessarily have to be done by a professional like Rhonda. Sometimes, we’ve been distracted by something and we drift into a trance-like state, then something or someone makes a sudden noise or they stop and we’re taken out of that state. That just proves that we can enter a hypnotic state on our own.

Rhonda was a great guest today and I enjoyed talking to her about her work. If you want to learn more about her go to her website. If you want to learn about Rhonda’s book, “The Mark of A Druid” go here.

Psychic Abilities and Z-Point

Blog Talk Radio, Intuition, Learn To Be Psychic, Meditation, Psychic Effect, Psychic Experiences August 16th, 2009

Laura and Liz from ‘The Way To Bliss Now’ are talented energy workers who practise EFT and Z-Point. I was honoured to have them as guests on my ‘Learn To Be Psychic Talk Show‘.

Z-Point is an energy therapy, similar to EFT but it doesn’t rely on ‘tapping’ to clear the energy blocks instead it relies on the installation of a healing program and the use of a keyword or cue. This all technical and clinical and Laura and Liz do a much better job of explaining this on the show.

The connection between Z-Point and enhancing psychic abilities is quite simple really, it’s all energy and by using Z-Point energy clearing techniques you can ‘tap’ into your psychic energies a lot better. You could also use Z-Point to remove any blocks you may be experiencing around your psychic senses. Read the rest of this entry »

Talking To Pete

Psychic Experiences August 9th, 2009

Today on my Blog Talk Radio Show I talked to Pete a.k.a Psychic Chef.

Psychic Chef

Psychic Chef is a chef psychic/medium. He cooks during the day and roams the world healing and reading at night. He lives by the Samurai Bushido code and has travelled this earth since the pyramids were constructed. This is his seventh and last trip here before he ascends to the next plane.

Psychic Chef does palmistry, remote viewing, astral travelling, psychometry, energy work, house cleaning, reflexology, acupressure, shiatsu and he’s a trained masseuse. He provides psychic readings, counselling and training for people.

One of the questions I asked Pete was how he developed his gift/skill, he said that he practised a lot and that, like David Beckham who is a world wide famous soccer star, we need to work to become good at what we want to do. Pete said that we need to practice, practice, practice, we need to read what we can, listen to our intuition and assess the feed-back that we get.

A exercise that Pete gave us was that some days, we look in the sport section of that daily newspaper and have a look at what teams/horses/racers are competing and guess which ones are going to win/place, and do this for about 10 competitors and then the next day look in the paper and see out of how many you got right.

I found that this talk was really interesting and I think that many people will benefit from listening to Pete and that he is really good with his readings.
