Children are often susceptible to psychic abilities. Their open mindedness and their uncompromised notions of ESP allow them to be sensitive to insight and information that adults may have a tendency to tune out. For children insight or unencumbered knowledge is as natural and as profound as their ability to see or hear.
Psychic abilities, or the sixth sense, are natural phenomena that we are all born with. Children are especially open to seeing and hearing the subtle signals and patterns that emanate from other dimensions. In essence they do not any better. As adults we are conditioned to ignore spirits and psychic messages. By the time a child is anywhere from nine year old to their early teens the innocent ability to identify psychic signals begins to diminish. As a child learns to reason and filter their beliefs through the looking glass of society they often become scared of their natural abilities.
Children under the age of 11 often have not begun to filter information according to social influences. As we get older we tend to double check ourselves against social taboos and at this time much of society views the sixth sense very much as a social taboo.
Young children have other advantages as well. They are more apt to use psychic abilities due to the already wondrous way that a child’s mind operates. Fantasy and magic are a large part of a child’s reality. Trusting in your mind and natural abilities are part of what makes psychic abilities possible. For children this is as easy as pretending.
For a child to successfully develop their psychic abilities they must be encouraged. Like any creative outlet it must be cultivated. As a parent you can help your child retain their psychic abilities as well as create a relationship where your child feels safe with a gift that others may shun. To begin it is helpful for you to keep a list of observations about your child. What kind of insights or ways does he or she exhibit psychic abilities. As you begin to understand their patterns you may be able to see ways that you can help. Listen to your child. When they come to you and tell you a story listen, ask questions and never criticize or accuse them of making up fiction. You can enhance the experience for your child while teaching observation skills by asking your child to recount details such as what color something was or if the child noticed any smells or other sensations.
Children who have advanced psychic abilities are also often very sensitive that is why it is important to avoid “putting them on the spot.” Your child’s skills are not tricks for you to show off. Reframe from asking your child to display their talents for others. This can embarrass and hurt them.
An important part of encouraging psychic abilities or any abilities for that matter is to teach your child to adopt healthy habits. This includes eating right and getting plenty of rest. It also means teaching your child to respect themselves and others, enjoy nature and generally strive toward goodness. Try and incorporate down time into your child’s routine. A few hours of down time a day is crucial to allow them to process information. Encourage your child to not only find some quite time but to learn to ground themselves using a meditation routine. These lessons will benefit your child for years to come.
